Stephenson College based Motorsport students, alongside lecturer and accomplished driver, Alex Fletcher have brought a new trophy to the workshop cabinets, having won the prestigious BTRDA Rallycross Overall Championship for the second year running.

Racing in a car built and maintained entirely by his team of Stephenson College students, Alex took to the Knockhill Circuit in Scotland in an exhilarating final race of the BTRDA Rallycross Championship to earn the title of overall champions.

Throughout the season, the College’s student team has been responsible for the entire preparation and maintenance of the Honda Civic Type R, handling everything from construction to performance on race day. By taking part in projects like the Rallycross Championship, students Dominic Allured, Nathaniel Ajala, Woody Hart, Angus Pirie-Scott, Luca Simpkin, and Ben Tillotson-Roberts each earnt unique, hands-on learning opportunities, giving them real-world experience in motorsport engineering, technical troubleshooting, and race-day logistics.

Reflecting on the work of his students throughout the championship, Alex said: “This victory is a testament to the talent, dedication, and hard work of our students. They’ve put so much work into every detail of the car and watching them rise to the challenge and grow as professionals has been a reward in itself.

“We won the championship last year, making us one of only four teams to have earnt the back-to-back title. Nobody has been able to do it for three years in a row, so that’s our next challenge!”

Alongside becoming Overall Champions, this year’s triumph marks the fourth year of consecutive national trophies for the College Group’s rallycross team who clinched first place in their class in the Championship seasons of 2022 and 2023
