Philanthropic Staff Announced as Finalists in National Further Education Charity Awards

Staff from across Loughborough College Group have been celebrated for their pioneering social action work as they were announced as finalists in this year’s Good For Me, Good For FE charity awards.

Staff members James Shields, Lisa Whait, and Danny Lee are up for awards in the Individual Fundraiser of the Year, Staff Volunteer of the Year, and Inspirational Role Model of the Year categories respectively, and have all been invited to the awards ceremony, to be held at the House of Lords next month. 

CEO of Loughborough College Group, Corrie Harris shared: “We are so proud of the three staff members who have been shortlisted for these amazing awards. Their dedication to community action is truly inspiring and we are so excited to celebrate their hard work and achievements.”

Founded in 2021 by Loughborough College, London South East Colleges, and East Coast College, the Good for Me, Good for FE initiative aims to encourage and celebrate the fundraising and community outreach work done by staff and students at further education establishments across the country. Now in its fourth year, the programme supports over 150 colleges nationwide, and has recently launched a voluntary qualification for students taking part in community projects.

A summary of the finalists can be found below.

James Shields, Finalist for the Individual Fundraiser of the Year Award
James has coordinated and overseen various fundraisers over the last few years at the College Group, most recently raising thousands for colleague Gilly Entwistle in her fight against brain cancer. 

Lisa Whait, Finalist for the Staff Volunteer of the Year Award
Lisa has been dedicated to the Good for Me, Good for FE initiative, with regular and significant contributions to charity and volunteer work, logging over 178 hours this year with various charity and community organisations.

Danny Lee, Finalist for Inspirational Role Model of the Year Award
Danny has raised thousands of pounds for various charities and special funds over the years. He has been a constant advocate for Pride in Sport, and was part of the Sport team who won the EDI Award at this year’s Association of College’s Sport Awards.
