Features & Benefits

The Supported Internship programme is an excellent way to make the transition from education to paid employment easier for learners with SEND. Learners gain valuable employability skills alongside their qualifications to help them get a foot on the ladder of a potential future career.

Learners receive full support from fully trained Job Coaches both in College and at work. They also receive extra support at work from their employers. All of their work is evidenced in the form of an individual Internship Portfolio, which will document their progress throughout the course.

Course Content

Two days a week: Study English, maths and Work Skills at Loughborough College.
Two days a week: Work in a real job role with a local employer with the support of a Job Coach.
[Learners will be matched to a suitable job role as close to their area of interest as possible. Learners will work in a job role for 12 hours per week over 2 days, alongside studying at Loughborough College for up to 10 hours per week over 2 days (approximately)].

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements, however learners will need to demonstrate the willingness and ability to adapt to a work environment.

This programme is for any young person aged 17-24 years, with an EHCP, who:

  • Wants to work but needs extra support
  • Wants to try something different to studying
  • Would like to gain valuable skills as well as qualifications

Please note: This course is aimed at learners aged 16-18 and adult learners with an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP) identifying it as their chosen course. Adult learners are encouraged to contact Student Recruitment who will look at alternative Level 2 courses or if necessary Adult English and Maths courses that will enable them to join a Level 2 course afterwards.

Progression

Learners will receive an interview at end of the course with their employer, where possible for a paid position, and/or a reference to add to their Internship Portfolio. If they are unable to secure a role with their employer, they will be supported to help them find alternative employment or training.
