The Director of the Robot Needs Home Collective, John Helps, is guest lecturing at Loughborough College to inspire students on the Creative Music Industry programme.

John Helps has excelled in the past 15 years, from creating a record label to release his band’s debut EP in 2004 to now promoting shows, recording and releasing records and offering management services for bands worldwide.

He will share his vast experience and extensive knowledge of his multiple expertise to students, encouraging them to make their own mark in the creative industry.

Matthew Toole, HE Lead for Music, said: “John is an experienced musician, promoter, tour manager and owner of his independent record label. The knowledge that John holds will influence our Level 3 students studying the Working in the Music Industry unit, as they investigate job roles that may be of interest to their professional aspirations.

“They look at how opportunities and materials can be combined to assemble a portfolio ready for their employment in the creative industries. This is essential as practitioners use portfolios throughout their careers and we are preparing our students to create theirs early on.

“John’s personal experience of being in the music industry will be engaging and informative for the students as they begin to take their first steps within the industry.”

Based locally in Leicester, the DIY music organisation has hosted and released records from Maybeshewill, Waking Aida and Cats and Cats and Cats. They have also promoted thousands of diverse shows ranging from basement punk gigs to classical concerts.

Helps has also accomplished the organisation of tours across five continents including regular touring of Russia, China, South America and Europe at venues such as New York’s Bowrey Ballroom and London’s Wembley Arena.
