Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3) Land-Based Service Engineering Technician

Role overview
Land-Based Service Engineering Technicians keep agricultural, horticultural, forestry, and turf machinery running safely and efficiently. They install, service, diagnose, and repair a wide range of equipment from tractors and harvesters to turf-care and forestry machinery.
Apprentices develop advanced technical, diagnostic, and customer service skills, supporting farmers, grounds teams, and land-based businesses across the UK.
You’ll learn how to:
- Install, service, and maintain land-based machinery and equipment
- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic faults
- Use advanced testing and diagnostic tools to identify performance issues
- Carry out inspections and compile condition and service reports
- Work safely in workshop and field environments, often independently
• Provide technical advice and customer support on-site or at the dealership
Apprentices typically work with dealerships, manufacturers, or maintenance providers supporting equipment across agriculture, horticulture, and amenity sectors.

Progression opportunities
After completing this apprenticeship, learners can progress into roles such as Lead Technician, Workshop Supervisor, or Service Manager, or continue their training with higher-level agricultural or engineering qualifications.
Completion of this apprenticeship also provides eligibility for professional registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) with the Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE).
