Role overview
The Associate Project Manager Level 4 Apprenticeship is designed for people who support, coordinate or manage projects as part of their role. It helps learners build the practical knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to deliver projects on time, within budget and to the required standard.
Associate Project Managers play a vital role in helping organisations turn ideas into results. They contribute to project planning, stakeholder communication, risk management, budgeting, scheduling, governance and delivery. This apprenticeship is suitable for employees working in a wide range of sectors, including business, education, public services, infrastructure, charities, research, finance and more.
Throughout the programme, apprentices will develop confidence in managing project activity, working with teams, solving problems, analysing information and communicating effectively with stakeholders. They will learn how to apply structured project management approaches in the workplace and support the successful achievement of project outcomes.
Entry requirements
- 5 GCSE’s at Grade C/4 (or above) including Level 2 GCSE C/4 or above including English, Maths or and Science
- Management experience needed
- If an Apprentice has not already achieved Level 2 (GCSE C/4 or above) English & Maths they must: -Study for and achieve Functional Skills Level 2 English & Maths.
- Initial Assessment on enrolment Level 1 Maths & English

Apprentices will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to support and manage projects effectively.

- Understanding the project lifecycle, project roles and responsibilities, project governance and how projects support organisational objectives
- Project planning and scope management
- Defining project requirements, setting objectives, developing plans, agreeing milestones and managing project scope.
- Stakeholder management and communication
- Identifying stakeholders, understanding their needs, managing expectations and communicating project progress clearly and professionally
- Risk and issue management
- Identifying, assessing and managing project risks and issues, including escalation and mitigation planning
- Budgeting and cost control
- Understanding project budgets, monitoring costs, managing resources and supporting financial control throughout the project lifecycle
- Resource and schedule management
- Planning project activities, sequencing tasks, allocating resources and monitoring progress against deadlines
- Quality and change control
- Supporting project quality requirements, managing change requests and ensuring project outputs meet agreed standards
- Leadership and teamwork
- Working effectively with project teams, supporting collaboration, problem solving and contributing to positive project outcomes
- Research, analysis and evaluation
- Gathering and analysing information, evaluating project performance and using lessons learned to improve future delivery
- Portfolio development and preparation for end-point assessment
- Building evidence from the workplace and preparing for the final assessment, which includes a project report, presentation and professional discussion.

It also confirms the end-point assessment includes a portfolio-supported professional discussion and a project report followed by presentation and questioning.

This apprenticeship is suitable for both new employees starting a career in project management and existing staff who already support projects as part of their role.

The programme is typically delivered over 18 months, followed by an end-point assessment period. During the Apprenticeship, learners will combine workplace experience with structured training, coaching and independent study.
