Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2) Carpentry and Joinery

Role overview
This Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery Apprenticeship is designed for those who want to begin a career in the construction and woodworking trades.
As an apprentice, you will develop the practical skills and technical knowledge needed to create, install, and repair timber components used in building projects, from doors and windows to staircases, frameworks, and interior fittings.
Training is delivered through a mix of college-based learning at Stephenson College and on-the-job experience, giving you the opportunity to work with real materials, tools, and equipment while learning directly from experienced tradespeople. You’ll build the foundations for a rewarding career in a sector with strong demand for skilled carpenters and joiners.
Entry requirements
No experience in the industry is required. Apprentices must complete, or have previously completed recognised English and Mathematics Level 1 qualification (GCSE grade 2 or above) and aspire to achieve English and Mathematics Level 2 qualifications (grade 4 or above)during the apprenticeship.
Programme includes
- Measuring, marking, cutting, and shaping timber and wood products
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
- Following industry health and safety standards on construction sites and workshops
Where can you work?
- Housebuilding and residential construction – fitting doors, windows, staircases, and roof structures
- Self-employment or subcontracting in carpentry and joinery trades
Progression opportunities
On completion of this standard, some apprentices may progress onto the Advanced Apprenticeship Standard in Carpentry and Joinery, or secure employment as a Site Carpenter.
The achievement of this standard will meet the requirements of the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Skilled Worker standard, which is widely accepted in the sector as a license to operate in a skilled construction trade.
