Here are 10 things that you need to know about Apprenticeships:

An Apprenticeship is a training programme that allows you to learn new skills and gain recognised qualifications while working
Apprenticeships take one to four years to complete depending on the level.

You can start an apprenticeship after your GCSEs
A change in law means that young people must stay in education until they are 18. This means you can choose to stay at school, start an Apprenticeship or go to college.

Apprentices are employed
An Apprenticeship is a combination of paid employment and a training programme therefore you cannot be an Apprentice if you are not employed. Find an Apprenticeship vacancy.

Earn while you learn
You will earn a salary and benefits as per other employees at the organisation e.g. paid holidays

You will gain an industry related qualification and valuable work experience
At the end of your Apprenticeship, you will have the skills, knowledge, experience and technical qualification to progress your career.

There are different levels of apprenticeship
Ranging from a Level 2 to a Level 7 – meaning that you may have the opportunity to progress through an Apprenticeship and even complete a degree

Studying takes place at college or in the workplace
You will spend the equivalent of one day a week studying and/or training for your Apprenticeship, either at college as day release or within the workplace. You will also have an assessor who will regularly visit you in the workplace.

You can train on an Apprenticeship in many industries
Including engineering, childcare, catering and hospitality, IT, business admin and more.

Apprentices do not pay tuition fees
Depending on your age and the size of your employer your Apprenticeship will be funded either via the Government or via your employer or a combination of both. As an Apprentice you will not pay any fees.
