After spending years volunteering across Leicestershire and supporting local community groups, Skills Bootcamp participant Majeda Dewan decided it was time to invest in her own development.

With the goal of gaining recognised qualifications that would allow her to expand her work and create new opportunities, Majeda joined the Loughborough College-led Skills Bootcamp course in Coaching Skills.

Before joining the Bootcamp, Majeda was heavily involved in volunteering across the county, supporting local Bangladeshi women, helping at community events, and contributing to grassroots programmes. She had the passion and dedication but lacked the formal qualifications to progress further, which is where Skills Bootcamp could help her in gaining the accreditation she needed.

Throughout the Skills Bootcamp course, Majeda benefited from a strong emphasis on inclusivity, diversity and safeguarding. The programme’s flexible, blended learning model meant she could balance her studies with family, volunteering, and community commitments.

By the end of the programme, Majeda had developed the practical skills, confidence, and professional grounding she needed to progress in her work. She also achieved a full set of sports‑recognised qualifications, including a Level 2 Award in Safeguarding and Protecting Children and Young People and a Level 3 Certificate in Coaching, opening the door to new career pathways. Support from the staff at Loughborough College, and regular check-ins also gave her the confidence to work safely and effectively in best practice with vulnerable individuals and community groups.

Reflecting on the programme, Majeda said: “The teaching on the programme was excellent. Clear, practical, and full of useful tips and ideas. The staff have incredibly supportive and committed, which made the whole learning journey positive and empowering.”

Since completing the Skills Bootcamp course, Majeda has flourished in a range of roles and activities, supported by her newly developed skills and confidence, recently beginning working as a consultant for mental health and neurodivergence charity, Imroc.

Majeda also founded her own organisation, Bangali Go, who have become an official provider for England Football, and she will be delivering football sessions, breaking down barriers in sport specifically for Bangladeshi women. The County FA has awarded additional funding, adding to the grants she previously secured from grassroots charity, Sported, and The Barclays Community Fund.

Equipped with key qualifications from her Skills Bootcamp, Majeda shared: “I don't know when my love for football started but culturally, I rebelled every time I played. When I first studied at Loughborough College 30 years ago, my family insisted I studied Family and Community Care, instead of Sport.

“30 years later, I returned to Loughborough College with the same passion that has evolved into the amazing opportunities I have today, and transformed me into a community Champion.”
