Fathima Rushda Mohamed Nizamdeen | Level 3 VRQ Diploma in Hairdressing

I chose to study at Loughborough College because of the atmosphere and the environment created by my peers and the tutors. Not only in the classroom but across the whole college. Everyone is very smiley and it’s quite nice to see this.

My hairdressing course is very hands on and practical which I really enjoy. It’s nice being able to learn different techniques and then twist that into my own style. No lesson is ever the same which really keeps me on my feet and excited for the next week.

Being able to participate in National Competitions has been amazing and really given me a taste of the thrill of working outside of my comfort zone. It also allowed me to meet other hairdressers and learn valuable lessons from them too.

My course tutors are very supportive and down-to-earth. If I ever feel nervous or confused, they don’t hesitate to come and talk to me and I know I can go to them confidently too. The biggest support is definitely the members of staff – not only tutors but also staff in recruitment and there is Mental Health/Wellbeing support too.

The facilities are good. They have a few dining areas and the Hub is nice too. Overall, the College itself has exceeded my already high expectations from when I first came to the Open Day.

My next step is to hopefully get into work at a hair salon or maybe even open my own.
