Film and TV Graduate Ruby Hits the Airwaves with BBC Apprenticeship
Wednesday 4th March 2026

BTEC Level 3 Film and TV graduate, Ruby Clarke, returned to Loughborough College last week to share her post-BTEC advice with current students and give a behind-the-scenes look at her exclusive BBC Radio Leicester apprenticeship, which she secured with the support of her lecturers and teachers.
Reflecting on her decision to study BTEC Film and TV at Loughborough College, Ruby said: “I did my GCSEs and was considering going on to study A Levels, but I knew it wasn’t really what I wanted. I came to Loughborough College and as soon as I started my BTEC I knew I was in the right place.”
After finishing her course in June 2025, Ruby launched into applying for an Early Careers Apprenticeship at BBC Radio Leicester, which was suggested to her by Quality Improvement Lead for Media and Games, Clare Barker. After a lengthy process, Ruby secured the role and began her Apprenticeship in September last year.
“Thousands of people apply to the Apprenticeship scheme with the BBC, and although it was daunting, I had the support of Clare and Media Lecturer Tom Chambers. I applied to universities, but I wanted to take a different path to kickstart my career, which they really championed. I wouldn’t be where I am now without them.” Said Ruby.
Looking back on her time at Loughborough College, Ruby says it’s the industry-standard skill development and equipment that the College Group provides that gave her an edge in her new role.
She continued: “My BTEC set me up for this Apprenticeship really well. Some of the software and tools we used at College are used at the BBC, so I felt really confident and comfortable. It has been a great starting point for my career.”
Having returned in February to speak to current Level 3 students about her experience, Ruby offered invaluable advice and tips on how Apprenticeships can boost skill development and career prospects in any industry.
Speaking to the students, Ruby said: “I cannot rate this place enough, the staff want what’s best for you. It was Clare who first sent me the apprenticeship and helped me apply. Everyone roots for you, I can’t stress how supportive and kind they have been.”
