This course will enable you to work with a wide range of animals and develop your practical skills. The programme will also provide you with underpinning knowledge of animal health, behaviour, food and care requirements.

Brooksby College is home to an extensive Animal Care Centre housing a wide rang of animals on-site here. From exotics to domestics, insects to farm and hoofed animals, students benefit from a wealth of hands-on experience, allowing for a truly well-rounded educational experience.

Course Content

Modules include:

Health and Safety

Preparing for work experience

Maintaining animal health and wellbeing

Assisting with moving, handling and maintaining animal accommodation

Animals in the wild and their main features

Assisting with feeding and watering animals

Assisting with exercising animals

This course involves both theory and practical classes, which will allow you to develop your skills in all areas of Animal Care. There will also be an emphasis developing key personal skills that will allow students to progress on to futher study.

Entry Requirements

1 GCSE at grade 3 or above, preferrably in English

Progression

Upon successful completion of this course, students may progress onto Level 2 programmes in relevant subjects, or into an apprenticeship or a job within the industry, for example Animal Care Assistant or Kennel/Cattery Worker.
