This programme is for students who want to study Painting and decorating. It is a qualification that prepares you for an introduction to the basics of Painting and Decorating. You will gain the skills required for direct employment in the construction sector.

Features & Benefits

You will train in a dedicated workshop with a highly skilled lecturer, and support staff will be on hand to help. The course recommends completing 30 hours of work experience each academic year to help you build workplace skills. You will also attend trips and visits from industry guest speakers.

Course Content

You will study and practice different techniques of the trade. Included is a mandatory online health and safety exam which is provided by the governing body. Completion of this exam provides you with the compulsory prior learning to apply to take a CSCS construction test and gain a CSCS card, which is mandatory on all construction sites. Lessons include a mix of classroom theory and practical tasks. Mandatory topics include Health and safety, and four practical tasks associated with the trade. These include both painting and wallpapering activities. We also include patch plastering to allow for repair and refurbishment projects.

The course helps you develop problem-solving, communication, and self-management skills. We also factor in employability skills, such as interview techniques and CV writing, to help you with securing full-time employment.

Entry Requirements

  • You need GCSEs in both Maths and English at grade 2 or above.

Progression

You can progress to level 2 after successfully completing level 1, and it also provides the foundation to apply for a construction apprenticeship.
