This dog grooming course is for anyone who wants to work in the dog grooming industry and work their way up.

This course incorporates working with a variety of breeds and coat types in an intimate group, enabling the experienced, highly qualified tutor to provide each candidate with time to build their confidence and skill set. If you are looking to start a career within the dog grooming industry, then this is qualification is aimed at you.

You will gain the practical skills and knowledge that are important for working as a Dog Grooming Assistant enabling you to work for a business or franchise, and it could be based in a salon or a mobile unit.

You could also progress to further learning and training in this area, to be a Dog Groomer and onto the Level 3 Dog Grooming course.

This is a City & Guilds accredited full cost course.

Course Content

This qualification covers the skills you will need to progress to work as a Dog Grooming Assistant.

Mandatory content covers:

Preparing and grooming dogs prior to bathing

Bathing of dogs

Drying dogs and preparing a dog for styling

Carrying out trimming of a dog's coat to prepare for styling

Moving and lifting dogs

Maintaining the cleanliness and biosecurity of the dog grooming environment

Professional conduct

An introduction to anatomical features, breed characteristics and behaviour of dogs You will be assessed by practical assessments, portfolio work and a final externally led examination. This course runs 1 day per week on Thursday OR Friday mornrings, 9:30 - 13:30

Entry Requirements

Applicants will be considered on an individual basis. No formal qualifications needed but you must be 16+ and be competent at working at this level. If you are under 18 on the 31st of August you must have grade 4 or above in Maths and English. Applicants should also be prepared to attend all lessons.

Progression

Learners may wish to progress onto the Level 3 Dog Grooming qualification.
