A host of our current and former student athletes have once again proven their world-class abilities on the international stage, claiming a trio of medals and a string of impressive performances at the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, India.

Current student Thomas Young sprinted to bronze in the men’s T38 100m, clocking a personal best time of 10.98 seconds to add another medal to his growing collection.

College alumna Lydia Church delivered an inspirational display in the F12 shot put, securing a brilliant bronze medal following a difficult year recovering from back surgery. Adding to the medal tally, fellow alumnus Jonathan Broom-Edwards produced a remarkable performance to win silver in the T64 high jump, clearing a staggering 2.00m for a season’s best.

There were also strong performances from Sophie Hahn, who reached both the T38 100m and 200m finals, and Olivia Breen, who narrowly missed out on a medal in the T38 long jump. Meanwhile, Zac Skinner impressed the crowds with a fourth-place finish in the T13 long jump.

Reflecting on the successes of current and former learners, Matt O’Dowd, Director of Sport at Loughborough College Group, said: “We are incredibly proud of all our current and former learners who represented Loughborough College Group in New Delhi.

“To see so many of them performing at such a high level is a testament to their hard work, determination, and the supportive environment we strive to create.”

For our developing elite para-athletic talent, attention now turns to the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and the build-up to the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
