British Handball Team Journey to World Junior InterContinental Handball Trophy Final

Following a spirited campaign that saw that saw them overcome challenging opponents, the British Handball team's quest for the World Junior InterContinental Handball Trophy concluded with an inspiring effort in the final, before being pipped to the post by host nation, Uzbekistan.

The journey to the final was marked by impressive victories over national teams like Peru and Mexico, showcasing the growing strength of British Handball on the global stage.

Current learners and alumnae from Loughborough College made up a significant portion of the squad, including Anna Rayner, Hannah Saunders, Syrine Jari, Heidi Warren, Alicia Smith, Tabatha Dann-Ward, Chloe Barnard, Ruth Knowles-Jackson, Kayla Henson, and Clio Stephanides. Their contributions throughout the tournament were instrumental in guiding the team to the final.

Reflecting on the team's journey, Assistant Coach and Head Coach of the English Handball Association (EPA), Joao Castro, commended the players for their resilience and determination.

"Reaching the final of such a prestigious tournament is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players," said Castro. "Their performance throughout the competition, especially against such strong opponents, was commendable."

Tabatha Dann-Ward, a current learner at Loughborough College and a key member of the squad expressed her pride, sharing, "The experience of competing at this level has been invaluable. Loughborough College has played a significant role in my development as a player, and I'm grateful for the support I've received."

Captain Hannah Saunders, an alumna of Loughborough College, echoed those same sentiments, emphasising the team's unity and determination, adding, "It's been an incredible journey for us as a team. Although we didn't achieve our ultimate goal, I'm immensely proud of the effort and commitment shown by every member of the squad."

The British Handball team's performance in the World Junior InterContinental Handball Trophy serves as a testament to their talent and potential as they continue to strive for success on the international stage.
