Winners at the Uppingham Fatstock Show

Brooksby College is ending the Autumn Term on a high after placing highly in a series of successful livestock competitions.

Starting with a strong performance, the college headed to Queniborough Farmer’s Competition, securing the award for Best Ewes and Lambs. This was quickly followed by the Uppingham Fatstock Show, where three Level 3 Agriculture students represented the college, placing first for the pen of paired cattle, homebred Hereford heifers, and third for the college’s homebred pigs.

Following the brilliant results at the Queniborough and Uppingham events, placing well at the Melton and Belvoir Fatstock Show was the icing on the cake. Brooksby’s Agriculture students secured third place in the Best Lightweight Steer category and 5th place for Best Lightweight Heifer.

When reflecting on the hard work that went into the Melton and Belvoir Fatstock Show, Rebecca Stretton, Curriculum Quality Lead for Agriculture at Brooksby College, said: “Our team of three students represented the college fantastically. They arrived early to Melton to get the cattle ready and presented them for sale within the ring once all show activities had finished.

“A special mention must also go to Luke and Joshua, our Farm team, for getting the cattle to Melton and for supporting our show team with all of the preparation.”

Brooksby College has a rich heritage of offering Agriculture and Land-based qualifications, with it’s 75-year anniversary approaching in 2026. Students get hands-on experience in every aspect of farming on the college’s working mixed arable and livestock farm, meaning they’re well-prepared to enter work in the Agriculture industry after completing their qualifications.

With an £18million development currently underway on campus, including a brand new Agri-tech Centre, there’s never been a better time to study at Brooksby. Applications are now open for those wishing to join the college in September 2026, visit www.loucoll.ac.uk/how-to-apply for more information.
