Celebrating International Day of Charity at Loughborough College Group

Friday 5th September 2025

To celebrate International Day of Charity, we are shining a spotlight on the incredible kindness, creativity, and community spirit seen across the Loughborough College Group over the last academic year.

From fun-filled fundraising days to heartfelt community outreach, our staff and students have shown just how powerful it is when people come together to raise awareness and vital funds for a variety of charities and community projects.

At the start of the year, the Sport department threw themselves into supporting BBC Children in Need, raising £2,583 through a week of unique fancy dress days, donning everything from suits and ties to pyjamas. The fundraising also continued at Radmoor Nursery, where children and staff got in on the fun by hosting a polka-dot party and cake sale.

In May, Loughborough-based Sixth Form staff and students took part in the inspiring Walk for Gilly, raising over £3,200 to support academic coach Gilly Entwistle’s cancer treatment. Their determination didn’t stop there – six students even scaled Mount Snowdon, helping to boost the total to almost £3,500 for the Gilly Kicks Cancer campaign.

Altogether, Loughborough College students and staff have contributed hundreds of volunteer hours and nearly £10,000 in fundraising over the past year, proudly supporting the nationwide Good for Me, Good for FE campaign.

At Brooksby College, our Equine students organised two charity shows over the year, taking place at Christmas and Valentine’s Day to raise money for the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA). By taking charge of everything from planning to promotion, they not only raised funds but also gained invaluable experience, all while championing inclusivity in the equestrian world.

Students at Stephenson College showcased their generosity in many forms as Hairdressing students hosted a lively pyjama day and collection, raising over £80 for Mind and sparking important conversations around mental health and wellbeing.

Health and Social Care students also spread festive cheer by gathering charity shoeboxes for the YMCA, providing gifts and essentials for young people in need. The warmth and kindness shown were truly uplifting, embodying the spirit of giving.

All this incredible work forms part of the national Good for Me, Good for FE campaign, which unites colleges across the country in making a positive impact on society.

Through volunteering, fundraising, and community action, our students and staff are not only transforming the lives of others but also developing new skills, confidence, and compassion.
