College Footballers Score Representation Across the World

Friday 11th August 2023

As the Premier League kicks off once again this weekend, Loughborough College is celebrating seeing 80 alumni representing the College in leagues across the UK, Europe, and internationally.

Currently there are nine alumni appearing in the Premier League for teams such as Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Manchester United, 55 players in the Football and National Leagues, 12 playing internationally, three in Scotland, and even one appearing in the iconic current England Lionesses squad.

Harvey Barnes, formerly of Leicester City has recently transferred to Newcastle United, after scoring 13 Premier League goals for his former club. Ben Chilwell, who has been vocal with his support for the College’s Keep Kids Active campaign during the pandemic, has also made a mark on the game, being named Chelsea vice-captain ahead of the new season.

In the Football and National Leagues, alumni Keirnan Dewsbury-Hall, Hamza Choudhury, Luke Thomas, Kasey McAteer, and Ben Nelson will be making appearances for Leicester City, and Jobe Bellingham, will be on the pitch representing Sunderland AFC.

Jobe’s brother, and fellow College legend Jude Bellingham will also be appearing in Spain’s La Liga tournament for the iconic Real Madrid, after a record-breaking transfer from Borussia Dortmund earlier this year.

College success doesn’t stop in the men’s game, as multiple elite players in the Women’s Super League, and England national team have passed through the College doors. Including current Lioness and Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Nobbs, who is currently in Australia for the Women’s World Cup, representing tournament favourites, England, who face Colombia in the competition’s quarterfinals this weekend.

FE Sport Curriculum Manager at Loughborough College, Danny Lee shared, “It is always so exciting to see our former learners soar in their chosen sports. The success of all these players is a testament to not only their dedication and ability, but to the staff and tutors here at Loughborough College who work so hard to support developing talent. We can’t wait to see what our fabulous alumni go on to next.”
