College Learner Selected to Assist with King’s Coronation Celebrations

Posted: 11th May 2023 - 2:50pm

Higher Education Business and Management Student Georgie Dove was one of twelve King’s Scouts selected by the King’s Scout Working Party (KSWP) to assist with celebrations for the Coronation of King Charles III last weekend.

Having joined Scouting at the age of seven, Georgie has been part of the movement for nearly 15 years, and her dedication made her one of a small group of Scouts young adult volunteers chosen to be a part of the historic weekend, being selected to assist with the King’s Garden Party on Wednesday 3 May and being chosen again to support at the Gilwell Park Coronation Camp on Thursday 4 May, an event to assist with the Coronation celebrations in London.

At the same time, the KSWP also commemorated the new monarch through a name change, transitioning from the Queen’s Scout Working Party to the now King’s.

Reflecting on the experience, Georgie shared, “What an amazing few days! Possibly some of the toughest I’ve had, however ones I will not forget for a long time. I was selected from thousands of King’s Scouts to help out at both events, so I am very honoured to have been able to attend.

“On Wednesday I went to help with the Queen’s Scout Working Party, at the King’s Garden Party. It’s incredible that I can say I was at the King’s first garden party!

“Then on Thursday, I drove down to Gilwell Park to start another adventure at the Coronation Camp event. Going into the event, I didn’t know anyone but we all got along, just as Scouts do! I was there to act as support staff to help the Network members and Explorers in the running of the event.

“I arrived as a member of the Queen’s Scout Working Party and left as a member of the King’s Scout Working Party – a quick change of necker was required! After the event, we were allowed into London to watch the coronation and to be available if needed.

Truly, they were days I won’t forget. Being a part of both of these events and celebrating the QSWP becoming the KSWP was incredible. Even though I had such a busy few days, it was a totally unforgettable experience, it has still not all sunk in!”

Congratulations, Georgie on being selected for these prestigious events!
