Construction Apprentices Pave the Way for Success at Regional Bricklaying Competition
Wednesday 29th April 2026

Two Construction Apprentices based at Stephenson College have showcased their skills on a regional level, earning exceptional praise and awards at the Guild of Bricklayers competition, held at Burton and South Derbyshire College earlier this month.
Level 2 apprentice Ravinder Dusanjh and Level 3 apprentice Billy Heslop both took part in the contest, earning second place in the junior and senior competitions, respectively.
Both apprentices were presented with technical drawings and given a time limit to produce intricate and complex brickwork models before being assessed by a panel of expert judges.
Ravinder, an apprentice with David Wilson Homes, part of the Barratt Group, participated in the junior category, facing off against a strong field of competitors to secure a second-place finish. In the senior category, Bloor Homes apprentice Billy also put his best brick forward, demonstrating a high level of skill to also earn a second-place trophy.
Curriculum Quality Lead for Apprentices in Construction at Loughborough College Group, Roy Hambridge, praised the students, sharing: “Both apprentices performed exceptionally well, and impressed the judges with their abilities. Ravinder is early on in his Apprenticeship, so this is an outstanding result for him, and Billy showcased highly professional levels of skill and proficiency. We are very proud of them both.”
Following the announcement of winners and runners-up, the top three competitors in both categories were presented with prizes from industry partners Keystone Lintels and I.G Masonry Support.
The Guild of Bricklayers aims to promote and maintain the highest standards of craftsmanship in brickwork. Founded in 1932, the Guild now has over 300 members across the UK, and organises regional and national competitions to showcase the up and coming professionals in the industry.
