DiSE Alumnae Take England to Netball Victory

Posted: 9th October 2023 - 2:39pm

Two former Netball DiSE learners took part in the U21 Netball Europe Tournament this weekend as part of Team England, supporting the team to victory.

Netball Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) alumnae Daisy Harrison and Freya Henshall represented the English national team at the tournament which was held in Sheffield over the weekend.

Facing off against Scotland in a nailbiting final on Sunday, the team led in the first half by eight points, going on to take the trophy after cinching a 54-43 win.

The tournament also marks an exciting new chapter for Team Bath defender Daisy Harrison who claimed Player of the Match in her first U21 game against Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, London Pulse’s goal attack Freya Henshall has continued her winning streak, having previously contributed to a storming victory for her Netball Performance League U21 side last year.

Having stayed unbeaten against Wales and Northern Ireland, the Young Roses took to the final, led by fellow Loughborough College learner and Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) alumna, Head Coach Leah Kennedy.

Elite Sport Deputy Manager at Loughborough College, Tom Boxall shared, “What a fantastic achievement to see some of our Netball DiSE alumnae competing at the highest level of their age category in this great tournament.

“It is so rewarding to see how these athletes have moved through their pathways and into the England squad for this European competition. This success is a testament to the hard work of these sportspeople and the College staff who work to support their ambitions.”

Congratulations Daisy, Freya, Leah, and all of Team England on a terrific tournament!
