Double delight for Loughborough College footballers

Loughborough College football teams have been crowned East Midlands champions in two different competitions and will now represent the region in the national championships.

The College’s first-ever Pan Disability Football Team beat Lincoln College, Leicester College, Nottingham College and Linkage College to clinch the East Midlands championship on 3rd November. They will now represent the region in the Association of Colleges (AoC) national championships in April 2022.

It was the first time the College had entered a team into the pan disability tournament, just a year after becoming a recognised Inclusion Hub college which champions and provides for disabled sports.

On the same day, the Women’s Football Academy became East Midlands Champions after winning the regional championship by beating Lincoln College and Bilborough College. They will also represent the region in the AoC National Championships next year.

Danny Lee, sport curriculum manager at Loughborough College, said: “To win two regional titles on the same day is a phenomenal achievement for our students.

“They demonstrated and embodied the unique Loughborough College work ethic and winning mentality that we seek to instil in all of our learners - we couldn’t be prouder.

“I’m especially delighted that our pan disability players have been so successful in their first-ever tournament. It’s incredible.”
