Staff and students from across College gathered on campus this week to enjoy the festive season with the annual Christmas tree light switch on celebration.

Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr. Margaret Smidowicz officially marked the start of the season by switching on the lights with Level 3 Art student Abigail, who was announced as the winner of the highly anticipated Christmas card competition.

Joined by children from the Radmoor Nursery for a seasonal singalong, including crowd favourite Jingle Bells, the event was a fantastic opportunity to gather the wider College community together and welcome the Christmas season in style.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Smidowicz shared, “The beginning of Christmas brings to an end a fantastic year at Loughborough College. With so many achievements and milestones reached it certainly is a year of celebration.

“I am looking forward to what else Loughborough can achieve in the next year, from the support of both your amazing students and staff.”

The crowds kept warm throughout the event, as the team from the Radmoor Restaurant served festive hot chocolates, complete in edible, sustainable Stroodles cups.

The festivities will continue across campus, with the upcoming Elf Day, raising money for Alzheimer's UK, as well as the annual Christmas Jumper Day, a festive food bank collection, and on-site Christmas fairs.
