Former ATP Tour Player and Musician Turn to Loughborough College to Pursue Higher Education Dreams

Loughborough College has a growing number of mature students who graduate after taking a break from work or deciding to switch career paths.

Kevin Kyler is a former ATP tour tennis player who has returned to education at Loughborough College to study for a BSc (Hons) in Applied Sports Science with Management.

Having played tennis since the age of 9, Kevin amassed enough tour points to get an ATP Ranking but is now focused on the business side of sports.

“I would love to work in event management, sports marketing or athlete representation. Having been a young athlete myself, I have seen many off-court business activities that are vital to make tournaments a success. Having now completed my studies, I think I can give something back to the game I love and help the next generation shine.”

Karl Traae enjoyed playing bass guitar in local bands, signing record contracts and performing at festivals and venues before returning to college. Karl enrolled on the Access to Higher Education programme at Loughborough College, which provides a qualification to prepare people without traditional qualifications for study at university.

And now Karl has graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Events Management.

“I have managed our band's events and dabbled with music publishing and sound recording but was largely self-taught.

I recognised that if I wanted to make a career in the music and entertainment industry, I needed formal qualifications and experience. Now I feel prepared and ready for the next chapter in my career.”
