A Loughborough College graduate has secured his first ever win in a motorsport world championship event.

Jake Dennis, 25, graduated from the College’s elite Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme in 2013 and at the weekend raced to glory in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Valencia.

Jake, who races for BMW I Andretti Motorsport, has now moved into the top 10 in the driver’s standings following his dominant win at the DHL Valencia E-Prix. He had secured pole position after setting the fastest lap during the group qualifying stages.

The Nuneaton-based racer is also a regular ‘development driver’ for Formula One team, Red Bull Racing. In the role, he gets to test drive F1 cars.

Matt O’Dowd, Head of Elite Sport & Development at College, said: “We’re really proud of Jake who has excelled in his career in professional motorsport since graduating from our programme.

“The whole College team always gets a real buzz when we see one of our learners succeeding and we wish Jake the very best of luck for the rest of the season.”

The DiSE Motorsport Programme is a unique partnership between Loughborough College and Motorsport UK, the sport’s governing body. It enables learners the flexibility to achieve academic qualifications whilst training.

Young aspiring drivers and co-drivers, serious about their motorsport career, who are interested in applying to the Motorsport UK Academy enhanced Diploma in Sporting Excellence can enquire via academy@motorsportuk.org.
