Group 1909 Returns! Determined Team of Staff Take on Daring Ultra Challenge
Wednesday 14th January 2026

A dedicated team of Loughborough College Group staff are lacing up their walking shoes again for a new test of endurance, all in the name of charity.
Having completed the gruelling Welsh 3000 challenge last year, staff from across the College Group are back in training for their next fundraising adventure, taking on the Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge in June to raise vital funds for local children’s and young people’s charity, Rainbows Hospice.
Coordinated by Head of Digital and Adult Skills, Jesse Jackson, the team of 10 kicked off the new year with a -5 degree, 26km training walk over harsh snow- and ice-covered ground across the stunning Peak District.
“This year’s challenge is a real test of endurance, as we’ll take on some of the country’s most beautiful but toughest terrain across the Cotswold Way over the course of 36 hours,” said Jesse. “It’s not just a challenge for us but is a way to support a cause that’s been close to the College Group’s ethos for many years.
“There will be moments where our energy dips, and the finish line seems impossible, but our camaraderie and the support of our wider College Group community will make all the difference.”
Recalling the sense of togetherness developed over the course of the Welsh 3000 Challenge, Team 1909 are keen to offer a new way for cross-College staff to connect for a common cause and raise much needed funds for an important cause. Staff from across the College Group are also encouraged to join the training walks, both as preparation for the Ultra Challenge and a chance to develop a sense of camaraderie amongst cross-campus staff. Staff should email Jesse Jackson to get more information.
