Armed with wax strips, learners from the Beauty Therapy programme showcased their skills for a good cause earlier this month, offering leg waxing to any brave souls across College to raise an amazing £300 for Red Nose Day.
With a line of volunteers waiting nervously by the entrance of the Radmoor Centre’s salon doors, Level 2 learners on the Beauty Therapy course were offered a unique opportunity to practice their budding skills, whilst raising much needed cash for Red Nose Day’s many nationwide charitable operations.
Among the numerous volunteers who braved the waxing chairs, were athletes from the NFL Academy, who swapped punting for pampering, and Public Services lecturer Johnny Verhey who proved that beauty is pain and raised impressive funds from both students and staff.
Curriculum Manager for Hairdressing, Barbering, and Beauty Therapy, Claire Springthorpe was thrilled with the participation and camaraderie from across College, sharing, “Seeing students and staff from around College come to take part in the waxing event has been fantastic. The fact that so many volunteers came from different areas of campus to take part, and raise money for Red Nose Day shows what a supportive community we have here.”
Beauty Therapy lecturer, Jane Calderwood agreed, adding, “We’re also so proud of our Beauty Therapy learners who showcased their skills and represented our department so well. £300 is an incredible achievement, and we are all so proud to be a part of this hair-raising event!”
The fundraising done by learners on the Beauty Therapy course is part of the Good for Me, Good for FE initiative, co-founded by Loughborough College in 2020, encouraging staff and students in colleges across the country to take part in charitable enterprises.
