Helping those in need keep warm this winter

Loughborough College staff and students donated a total of 50 coats to support a charitable initiative called ‘The Winter Coat Collection for HMP Foston Hall’ last week.

In just two days, generous staff and students donated spare warm winter jackets and coats to support women in prison who may not have access to warm clothing.

The initiative was spearheaded by Anne-Marie Francis, Vice Principal at the College. She said: “The coats will make a huge difference to people who often feel they are forgotten or unworthy. For them and their families to know someone has cared enough to help them stay warm and dry is really life affirming.”

Anne-Marie also received many thanks from the prison and the priest who collected the coats.

Jonathon Whitby-Smith, the priest from Our Lady of Lourdes Church, said: “I did wonder at the miraculous multiplication of the coats! Thank you to all of the staff and students at the college, for your generosity. I hope the prison chaplain coming to collect the coats has a big enough car.”

This initiative has contributed towards the College’s Good for Me, Good for FE campaign which so far, has nationally generated £571,000 in social value, £23,000 in fundraising, 30,587 volunteering hours and 48,426 food donations.

We are well on our way to achieving our goal of generating £1m of social value.
