Brooksby College celebrated another year of exciting developments as the College welcomed over 600 visitors to its campus this weekend as families, local residents, and farming enthusiasts came together for the annual Open Farm Sunday event.

Now in its 20th year, Open Farm Sunday is a national initiative led by LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming), designed to connect the public with farming and food production by providing opportunities to visit working farms and learn more about British agriculture.

Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed a wide range of activities showcasing the College's agricultural facilities, livestock, and land-based education programmes. Guests took part in tractor trailer rides, sheep shearing demonstrations, opportunities to meet the College's cows, pigs and sheep – including this year's new arrivals – and educational activities delivered in partnership with LEAF.

There was also an opportunity to visit the specialist Animal Care and Equine Centres, where they met a variety of animals and learned more about the variety of courses available at Brooksby College.

Younger visitors and families took part in farm-themed activities and workshops, alongside popular lawn games such as giant Tetris and Kerplunk. Gardening enthusiasts also had the opportunity to develop their green thumb at seasonal hanging basket demonstrations.

Principal of Brooksby College, James Fryer praised the community atmosphere of the event, sharing: “Open Farm Sunday is a fantastic opportunity to bring people together and introduce them to the important role farming plays in our daily lives in an engaging and accessible way.

“We were delighted to welcome so many visitors to our campus as part of the 20th Open Farm Sunday anniversary celebrations. The event also coincided with the 75th anniversary of Brooksby College, making the day even more special. Events like this allow us to showcase not only modern farming and food production, but also the exciting educational opportunities available to the next generation of agricultural and land-based professionals.”

As part of the wider Loughborough College Group – made up of Brooksby College, Loughborough College, IGNITE Performing Arts, and Stephenson College – the event forms part of Brooksby College's ongoing commitment to engaging with the local community and inspiring greater awareness of agriculture, animal care and environmental stewardship.
