Wednesday 27th May 2026

Students in the Inclusive Futures department at Loughborough College also known as Foundation Learning have been showcasing their new learning as they have undertaken new training and challenges to build their confidence and develop on trend skills for their next steps.
Earlier this month, students from the department, also known as Foundation Learning, honed their life skills and prepared for greater independence by planning and carrying out an exciting day trip to Nottingham. The students worked together as a team to research and organise the journey, using buses, trains, and trams along the way. Through this experience, they developed vital skills to support their next steps at Loughborough College.
Reflecting on the experience, Laura-Jane Pointon, Lead for Specialist Provision at Loughborough College said: "It's brilliant to see them all using the skills they have developed over the course of the year and to see how far they have come.
“This is one of many trips that students have the opportunity to take part in throughout the year and they are excited to plan for the next one.”
Also earlier in May, students held their popular annual woodworking and plant sale. Throughout the year, students have been busy creating items for the sale in the workshop and tending to plants in the College’s on-site allotment. Adding to their skills, students have taken ownership of the process, by planning, creating, and problem-solving along the way.
Programme Area Lead Colin Power said: "It's incredible to see the skills they have learned over the year in action and how they have come together as a team. They have practised their teamwork and communication, developing vital transferable skills for their next steps.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone from the College community who came along to support the sale, it was a great success.”
Students marketed the event, designed, and made all the products, and raised an impressive £397, which will now go back into the department to buy materials and supplies for next year’s sale.
