Sculptures created by Loughborough College art students on logs in Beacon Hill Country Park

A vibrant swarm of colourful, glittering beetle sculptures has arrived at Beacon Hill Country Park in Woodhouse Eaves this summer, thanks to the creativity and talent of our Level 1 Art & Design students.

The students’ sculptures are part of the Up to the Beacon Sculpture Trail 2025, 2.5km outdoor exhibition featuring over 25 artworks created by local artists and community groups. Running from Saturday 28th June to Sunday 21st September, the trail transforms the country park into exciting showcase of creativity and discovery.

Khyati Koria-Green, Lecturer for Art and Design at Loughborough College said: “The project emerged whilst we were arranging an exhibition at Charnwood Arts gallery, where we found a community group producing beetle sculptures for the trail. After having a conversation about how we could get involved, our Level 1 learners began bringing their ideas to life.

“It has been an incredible experience for our students. Not only did they develop their technical skills, but they also saw their work displayed alongside established artists. It’s been great to see their creativity on the trail.”

Supported by Leicestershire County Council Parks Department, Charnwood Arts, Intelligent Energy, The Charnwood Forest Landscape Partnership Scheme, and Charnwood Borough Council, the trail also offers a programme of free workshops for visitors throughout the summer.

Plans are already underway to continue this collaboration in future years, providing more learners with the chance to contribute their ideas and artwork to this celebrated community project.
