Loughborough Hair and Beauty Students Give Back Through Charity and Community Outreach
Friday 3rd October 2025

Hairdressing, Barbering, and Beauty Therapy students at Loughborough College have been busy putting their talents to good use, combining their professional training with community outreach to support both national charity work and local residents.
Students from across the department have been thinking and wearing pink as they supported the Look Good Feel Better campaign, a national initiative that helps people living with cancer to feel more confident and positive while coping with the visible side effects of treatment.
The campaign is particularly close to the hearts of the team, as Hairdressing and Barbering lecturer Kerie Mooney successfully fought breast cancer in 2023.
In addition to their fundraising and awareness work, Level 3 Beauty Therapy students have also been volunteering at Waterside Residential Home in Loughborough, offering residents a touch of pampering and relaxation. They have been providing hand and arm massages, facials, and nail painting sessions, which students said they have found rewarding and inspiring.
Claire Springthorpe, Curriculum Manager for Hairdressing, Barbering, and Beauty at Loughborough College, praised the students, sharing: “I am so proud of our students for using their talents to give back to the community in such thoughtful ways. By supporting Look Good Feel Better, and volunteering their time at Waterside Residential Home, our students really understand the power their skills can have beyond the salon, and the difference they can make to people’s lives.”
By engaging with both national campaigns and local community projects, the Hairdressing, Barbering, and Beauty department are also contributing to the College Group’s efforts for the Good for Me, Good for FE campaign – a national initiative aimed at encouraging staff and students at further education institutions to take part in fundraising, volunteering, and community outreach.
