Public Services Students Smash Fundraising Targets for Local Hospice Charity
Monday 30th March 2026

Public Services students at Loughborough College have proudly presented a cheque for £1,338 to local charity, Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People following a successful series of fundraisers and activities.
The students independently organised and led the initiative, raising the funds through a variety of events held across the College, including raffles, sponsored gym sessions, running challenges, and generous charity donations from staff and fellow students.
Rainbows Hospice, based in Loughborough, supports children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, as well as their families, through hospital, hospice, and home care.
The cheque was presented to Rainbows Community Fundraiser, Maria Thompson who visited the College to thank students personally for their months of hard work and showcase the difference the Hospice makes to children, young people, and their families across the East Midlands.
The fundraising campaign not only supported an important local cause but also gave students valuable hands-on experience in teamwork, leadership, and community engagement - key skills for careers in the public services sector.
Public Services Lecturer Stuart Taylor, who oversaw the project, praised the students’ dedication, commitment, and efforts, sharing: “I’m incredibly proud of what the students have achieved. They showed real commitment, creativity, and teamwork throughout the year.
“Supporting a charity like Rainbows Hospice makes a genuine difference, and it’s fantastic to see our students making such a positive impact in the community.”
