Sixth Form Students Shine in Prestigious Chemistry Olympiad

Chemistry students hold their certificates from the Olympiad

Students from across our Sixth Form department took part in this year’s Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Olympiad – one of the most challenging and prestigious competitions for young chemists in the UK.

This year, 21 students from Loughborough College took on the two-hour assessment renowned for its complexity, joining over 16,000 students from across the country.

Of our talented 21 learners, 16 earnt awards, a remarkable testament to their dedication, problem-solving skills, and scientific understanding.

Amongst the award-winners was stand out Grace Davis, who achieved not only a Gold Award – not only the highest tier of recognition – but also the highest score ever recorded by a Loughborough College student in this competition. Grace’s performance places her in the top 250 students nationally.

Another highlight is learner Bea Andrews, who secured a high-scoring Silver Award, made even more special as a Year 12 student competing against older peers.

Sixth Form Curriculum Manager, Lesley Humphries celebrated the students and their achievements at the Olympiad, sharing: “This competition is renowned for being quite tough, and we’re so pleased to celebrate the achievements of every student who took part. Their ambition, resilience, and passion for chemistry are an inspiration.

“A special well done to  Grace and Bea, whose accomplishments really do reflect their hard work and talent. Congratulations to all our competitors, you’ve done yourselves and the College proud!”
