A student who began her college career doing foundation maths has stunned her teachers after smashing a tough finance exam.
Simran Kaur, 19, from Leicester, performed well after joining Loughborough College in 2020 to study a Level 2 BTEC in Business Studies and was encouraged to go for the Level 3 programme.
She has continued to shine and has just earned a distinction after sitting a notoriously challenging finance exam, achieving the highest grade for her cohort.
Simran, who wants to eventually study Law, said: “I felt really prepared for the exam thanks to my teachers who gave me the confidence that I could do it. When I was waiting for my results, I’ll be honest that I was nervous. But when I got them it felt amazing. My mum was so proud!”
Simran said she initially enrolled on the business course because she thought it looked interesting, but after a couple of months she had fallen in love with the programme and hasn’t looked back.
“If I’m honest, I didn’t really feel passionate about the course when I started, but I’ve fallen in love with it as it’s more about developing your ideas,” she said.
“The teachers are brilliant because they explain the theory with real world examples that you can relate to which makes the information more memorable. It has really worked for me.
“They are so supportive and my teacher pushed me to do the Level 3. That gave me confidence to think that maybe I could go for it and do well.”
Christopher Price, Simran’s business studies tutor at Loughborough College, said: “Simran’s progression has been phenomenal. She’s extremely humble, but I think her determination to do well, coupled with our supportive, nurturing environment, has helped her blossom.
“Only four students achieved a distinction in the Level 3 Finance exam and she had the highest grade for her cohort, which is even more incredible. We’re extremely proud of her.”
