Team 1909 is Back – College Staff Start Training for Next Challenge

Posted: 20th September 2023 - 12:59pm

The determined team of Loughborough College staff who took on the gruelling 106km Isle of Wight walk are back in training for their next fundraising adventure, as they launched their training regime this weekend.

The team, led by Engineering Curriculum Manager Jesse Jackson, kicked off their training for the Peak District Ultra Challenge this weekend with a 12.1km walk around the north Nottinghamshire village of Ranby.

“We started with a 12km walk this weekend, designed to bring the team together for the first time,” Said Jesse. “We have a new approach to training this time around, and want to build on our College community.”

Recalling the sense of camaraderie developed over the course of the Isle of Wight Challenge, Team 1909 are keen to invite any interested staff in taking part in any walks they can. Inspired by mental and physical wellbeing, this new approach to training offers a new way for cross-College staff to connect for a common cause and raise much needed funds for important charities.

Jesse added, “We have been actively seeking wider College community engagement with these walks, and we hope more staff feel inspired to join us on one of our days out. It’s a great opportunity to show support to Team 1909 and also spend time improving both mental and physical health.”

The next training event, a 20k walk around picturesque Bakewell takes place in October, and the Peak District Ultra Challenge will be held in July 2024.

An online giving page for any charitable donations will be open soon.
