T-Levels are new courses which will follow GCSEs and will be equivalent
to three A Levels. These two-year courses have been developed in collaboration
with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry
and prepares learners for work. T levels are one of three post 16 options for
young people, the others being A Levels and Apprenticeships.
The purpose of this specialism is for you to know and understand electrical and electronic components and systems, and undertake key procedures for maintenance, installation and repair. You will have the opportunity to plan, perform and evaluate their work whilst utilising a range of materials, tools and equipment.

days (315 hours). This will give you the opportunity to apply your knowledge and
develop your technical skills in a real-life engineering workplace.
3. Employer Set Project:
The employer-set project
will consist of a well-defined, real industry-style brief. The brief will be
complex and non-routine, and will require the use of relevant maths, English and
digital skills. The brief will provide a valid context for the you to
demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the core content and your core
skills to solve occupationally relevant situations and/or problems.
Year 2:
Maintenance engineering technologies:
Electrical/Electronic
You will develop their knowledge and understanding of,
and skills in:
- Knowledge of the construction and operation of standard power conversion systems
- Knowledge and application of component classification, numbering and referencing systems
- Knowledge of how components are removed, replaced and repaired as part of electrical and electronic systems
- Skills to plan and prepare electrical and electronic maintenance activities using analysis and evaluation
- Skills to select and use tools, equipment, machinery and technology safely and effectively to complete maintenance, installation and repair activities
Delivery
Model
Full time programme, with classroom learning (80% of the course) and an extended industry placement (20% of the course).Features/
Benefits
T Levels are designed to deliver world-class technical education and give you a new choice after GCSEs. The Construction T level has been designed with leading businesses and employers in the construction industry and gives you:
- A thorough understanding of concepts and theories of the construction industry.
- The opportunity to solve real life problems in the construction industry.
- Valuable experience of learning from the experts through working side by side with those in the construction industry on your industry placement so that you have the chance to learn what this career is like in the real world while you continue your studies.
- Specialist knowledge and skills of electrical and electronic systems engineering.
- Your T Level will be worth UCAS points – a T Level Distinction* is worth the same as 3
- A Levels at A* – and will be recognised by universities and other education providers so you can choose to continue studying if you wish.
- T Levels involve more classroom study than apprenticeships, which means
you can experience an industry while you continue your
studies.
Entry
Requirements
GCSE English Language at grade 5
GCSE Maths at grade 6
2 Science GCSEs
at grades 55
And any other GCSE at grade 4 or above.
A previous study of engineering is not a requirement; however, you should
have an interest in engineering and be prepared to discuss this further at
interview.
Assessment
Methods
Year 1:
- Core Assessment: 2 Externally Set Exams - Paper 1 and Paper 2 are both graded A*- E.
- Employer Set Project: Externally assessed project work is graded A*-E.
- Industry Placement: Evidence log to show completion of hours required and evidence of development of technical skills and application of knowledge in a workplace environment.
Year 2:
- An occupational assessment that feature a considerable practical element and is composed of a series of holistic practical tasks relating to the specialism. It will take place over a period of time, scheduled within an approximate three-month assessment window. By nature of the considerable practical elements, the tasks will generate significant ephemeral evidence and be heavily reliant on Internal Assessor observation notes and records for validation - graded overall Distinction, Merit, Pass and Ungraded.
- Industry Placement: Evidence log to show completion of hours required and
evidence of development of technical skills and application of knowledge in a
workplace environment.
Progression
Opportunities
- Enter Employment: You can use the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained to start working in the engineering industry.
- Apprenticeship: There are many opportunities offered through apprenticeships that allow you to carry on learning (20%) whilst spending most of your time (80%) furthering your skills in the workplace.
- You can use the UCAS points you achieve as a result of completing your T level to continue your studies at university.
