Hairdressing and Barbering students took their curlers and clippers to Birmingham earlier this month to compete in the regional heats of the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) Hair Competition.

With eight learners participating in a variety of categories, from commercial styling and barbering, to advanced colour and fantasy up-do, the competition was tough, but four College learners triumphed, earning their place in the national finals in Blackpool in May.

Level 3 Barbering student Sarah Jennings took home third place in the barbering contest, and Hairdressing learners Flossi Darby and Kaia Newman took second and third place respectively in the advanced creative colour round. Finally, Level 3 Hairdressing learner Layla placed third in the fantasy style category.

Radmoor Salon’s Dispensary Technician, Andrea Hewitt, who attended the competition at Sandwell College in Birmingham celebrated the success of our learners, sharing, “Our learners are a credit to the Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy department, and to the College. We are all so proud of their accomplishments so far and can’t wait to see them thrive in the finals. Next stop, Blackpool!”

Sarah, Flossi, Kaia, and Layla will now head to the national AHT finals, taking place in May, where they will compete in categories including commercial, editorial, and fantasy hairstyling and barbering. Last year’s competition saw two Loughborough College students attend the grand final, and we are so excited to see what this year’s student cohort achieve!
