A group of talented Chemistry A Level students took on the challenging Chemistry Olympiad this year, showcasing their flair for science and competing amongst some of the brightest brains in Britain.
Following her success at last year’s University of Cambridge Chemistry Challenge, second year A Level student, Bea Andrews has been recognised once again as a future leader in the world of science, having taken part in the UK team selection round of the national Chemistry Olympiad.
Having taken on the notoriously tricky written test in Round One, Bea was one of the 30 highest-scoring students from over 16,000 participants invited to an exclusive residential assessment in Cambridge for Round Two.
As part of the second round, Bea took part in lessons and demonstrations on new topics from respected academics, teachers, and technicians over the course of a four-day trip, offering Bea the chance to engage with peers and further develop her skills through practical experiments and exercises in the department.
Reflecting on her experience, Bea shared: “It was certainly different from what we do at College, but I had a good baseline of knowledge going in. It was so fun, and it was a great experience, I met lots of new people, and I’m really proud of how I got on.”
Sixth Form Curriculum Head, Lesley Humphries added: “We are so proud of Bea’s achievements. After receiving her Gold certification from Round One, Bea secured a conditional offer to study Chemistry at the University of Oxford, which just demonstrates her natural talent for science.”
