Carrying on from last year’s inspiring ultramarathon across the Isle of Wight, Loughborough College’s adventurous group of staff, Team 1909, have laced up their walking shoes once more to prepare for a daring 100km trek through the stunning trails of the Peak District.
The intrepid team of eight staff members, led by Engineering Curriculum Manager, Jesse Jackson, embarked on their latest training journey, facing over 30 miles of terrain through the Derbyshire countryside this weekend.
Despite facing the demanding task of preparing for the challenging trek, the Team has approached their training with unwavering enthusiasm and camaraderie, negotiating steep ascents and rugged terrain.
Although the official 100km walk is scheduled for June, the team's dedication to their training regimen has already seen the group train in Tegg’s Nose, Macclesfield, Broombriggs Farm in Woodhouse Eaves, and even Gran Canaria, Spain. Team Leader, Jesse Jackson said, “We have been training since October, working hard to make significant strides in building endurance and skills ahead of the big day.”
Throughout their training journey, Team 1909 has remained motivated by the reason behind this demanding challenge. The group are undertaking the Ultra Challenge to raise funds and awareness for important local charities, including local hospice charity, Loros. The challenge also serves as part of the College’s wider Good for Me, Good for FE campaign, encouraging staff and students in further education to take part in community outreach, charity donation, and volunteering opportunities.
Reflecting on their progress thus far, Jesse continued, “The support we've received so far has been key to our continued success. This is a tough challenge on unpredictable terrain, and we’re really hoping to make a meaningful difference to local charity with our fundraising efforts.”
As Team 1909 continues to prepare for their upcoming trek, motivating each other to go the distance, and their supporters to join in achieving their fundraising goals, the group are hoping that their efforts will have a lasting impact on the lives of others when they embark on their epic journey through the Peak District later this year.
