10 Careers Post Coronavirus

Financial experts and economists have identified some of the jobs that will be in high demand once the coronavirus crisis is over.

Here are the top 10:

  1. Counsellor - would you like to help people to explore difficulties, distress or loss of direction in their lives? Are you a good listener who your friends can come to with their problems? Usually you would work on a one-to-one basis with clients, treating their problems in confidence.
  1. Care Assistant – would you like to help people who cannot cope with day-to-day tasks on their own, helping them to be as independent as possible? You would work in a residential home, special school, day centre or in people's own homes.
  1. Nurse - would you like to care for people who are ill or injured? You would also look after people who need special care, e.g. because they are pregnant or disabled.
  1. Laboratory Technician - would you like to help and support the work of Scientists?
  1. Paramedic - would you like to respond to 999 and 111 calls and treat patients who may be suffering from a cardiac arrest, heart attack, stroke, spinal injury and major trauma, or minor illnesses and injuries? You would provide a mobile healthcare service by arriving first at the scene and diagnosing and providing treatment.
  1. General Practitioner – would you like to be a Doctor who looks after people's health in their local area? You would be the first point of contact for most patients, carrying out your work during consultations in the surgery and during home visits.
  1. Police Officer - would you like to be responsible for keeping law and order? You would protect people and property, and make neighbourhoods safer places to live and work in. You would work on preventing, reducing and investigating crimes that have taken place. You might also be called to accidents and emergencies.
  1. Teacher – would you like to educate people from a particular age group, such as 5- to 7-year-olds, 11- to 19-year-olds or adults? As a Primary Teacher, you would teach a range of subjects or as a Secondary Teacher, you would usually specialise in teaching one or two subjects.
  1. Transport Manager - would you like to make sure that vehicles, carrying goods or passengers by road, reach their destinations safely and on time? You might deal with freight or with people.
  1. Site Manager - would you like to be in charge of the day-to-day organisation of a building site, recruiting staff, ordering materials and organising sub-contractors?
