Loughborough College by night

Following a milestone year marked by academic innovation, sporting excellence, and community engagement, we are looking back on the highlights and standout moments from 2024 to 2025.

September – December

Across our curriculum, students from various departments celebrated success. At the start of the academic year, our annual Graduation ceremony saw more than 170 degree-level students earn their qualifications in a range of subjects, from Business and Management to Caring Services, Sport, and Education.

Community and sustainability outreach remained at the heart of the College this year, with both staff and students raising staggering funds and vital awareness for a variety of charities and organisations. In November, students, staff, and children from across the Sport Department, and the Radmoor Nursery took fundraising to the next level, hosting a variety of themed dress up days and activities, raising an astonishing £2,583 for Children in Need.

Motorsport students brought home a national trophy during the BTRDA Rallycross Overall Championship, which was clinched by lecturer Alex Fletcher in a car built and maintained entirely by a team of College students.

At the end of the year, the College was recognised among the Top 100 Inclusive Employers of 2024 by the National Centre for Diversity, highlighting our FREDIE values and day-to-day commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

January – March

We were proud to host our inaugural Apprenticeship Awards during National Apprenticeship Week in February, celebrating apprentices, employers, and educators across the breadth of apprenticeships in education, engineering, and more.

In February, our residential accommodation, The Gables was recognised as Outstanding by the most recent Ofsted report, which praised the provision’s excellent individual care and support.

During the Association of Colleges National Green Week in March, the College reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability as Principal and CEO Corrie Harris, and Director of Estates and Sustainability Dale Richardson signed the Race to Zero pledge, committing to eight key eco-friendly initiatives.

Further success came from the Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy department, who undertook a once-in-a-lifetime educational visit to Japan, which saw students earn hands-on experience and exclusive learning opportunities, thanks to funding from the Turing Scheme.

April – July

In sport, the College once again topped the AoC Sport Championship Table, achieving an impressive 192 points and retaining its position as the UK’s premiere sports college for the second year running.

At the AoC Sport Awards held in June, Loughborough College also took home two titles, after the women’s rugby academy was named Team of the Year, and the Loughborough College Sport Academy programme also earnt the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Award for their ongoing dedication to EDI principles.

The Sports department were presented with their AoC Sport trophies alongside a Silver Award for the Pearson National Teaching Awards FE Team of the Year category, just days after GCSE English lecturer Zamzam Ali was presented with the same award for the FE Teacher of the Year title during our Further Education presentation ceremonies, which celebrated our students and their hard work and commitment.

In the Radmoor Centre, the Hospitality and Catering department also had plenty to shout about, as Level 3 Professional Cookery student Tom Brassington won back-to-back national awards, scooping the Nestlé Toque d’Or competition, and the Zest Quest Asia title with fellow students Lewis McLeman and Cam McGinty. The department’s Curriculum Manager, Darren Creed also saw personal success for his consistent dedication, earning the Chef Lecturer of the Year title at the prestigious Craft Guild of Chefs Awards, known as the ‘Oscars of the culinary world’.

In campus development news, the College’s sustainability efforts were then highlighted as we won the Sustainability Project category at the prestigious Midlands Sustainability Excellence Awards for our ground breaking with through the East Midlands Institute of Technology.

Alongside our soon to be opened East Midlands Institute of Technology centre, and state-of-the-art Sports Centre, we were proud to break ground on a £2.6 million Digital Skills Hub, funded by Loughborough Town Deal. The new hub is set to equip local people with digital skills for the future, increasing their employability and work placement opportunities.

The investment will support construction of the new Hub which will feature classrooms and IT labs to support not only local people, but the delivery of T Levels, apprenticeships, industry placements, and higher technical qualifications to upskill our community as we move towards a digitally focused future.
