National Apprenticeship Week is back from 5 - 11 February 2024.

The 17th annual, week-long celebration brings together the entire apprenticeship community to highlight apprenticeships' positive impact on individuals, businesses and the broader economy.

This year's theme is "Skills for Life," reflecting on how apprenticeships are the key for individuals to unlock the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career and businesses to build a talented workforce equipped with future-ready skills.

If you are an employer, parent, or learner seeking to know more, our apprenticeship festival is just the thing for you.

The apprenticeship festival will span a week, featuring a range of in-person and online events held at Loughborough College and across the UK.

The Loughborough College team has organised various events to highlight the opportunities and programmes available and the positive impact of apprenticeships.

Join our Apprenticeship Fair on Wednesday, February 7th, to explore your future. You will have the chance to meet with our apprenticeship team and top employers who are ready to help you transform your life through apprenticeships. Plus, we will offer daily drop-in sessions from Monday, February 5th, to Friday, February 9th, between 12:00 and 14:00 in The Big Space for anyone interested in learning more about apprenticeships.

    Event: Time for Change: Access for all – Celebrating Apprentices with Learning Differences and Disabilities

    Join this webinar on the first day of National Apprenticeship Week 2024 to hear from disabled apprentices and those with learning differences, sharing what works when it comes to supporting apprentices with additional needs. We will also be joined by Rabia Lemahieu of Disability Rights UK.

    The Big Assembly is a 100% free live assembly broadcast shown to over 140,000 people across the UK!

    It’s the place to be to learn all about apprenticeships from a variety of different perspectives, including former and current apprentices, employers of apprentices, parents, education providers, and much more.

    The Big Assembly is a series of live, interactive digital broadcasts, with audiences of tens of thousands of students from across the UK simultaneously participating in conversations about their futures.

    Event: ASK (Apprenticeship Support & Knowledge) Apprenticeships Workshops

    The ASK programme engages more than 3.5 million students in schools and colleges across England.

    The careers education programme offered to students and staff, including support and signposting already in place, careers fairs and local recruitment activities.

Lime Tree Day Nursery

Lime Tree Day Nursery, located in Loughborough has cared for babies and children between eight weeks and five years old for over ten years. The nursery, which cares for 85 children and operates both year-round and seasonal care, has worked with Loughborough College for many years on apprenticeships and career paths, supporting learners as they grow into childcare providers able to support babies and children of varying ages and needs.

From industry placements to career development, the relationship between Lime Tree and the College has forged a solid path for learners aspiring to work in childcare.

“Working closely with Loughborough College has opened us up to lots of different opportunities throughout the years,” said Georgina White, Apprentice Support Manager at Lime Tree Day Nursery. “We have had many apprentices and learners complete their qualifications with the College to a high standard, and the majority of staff who earn their certificates stay with us to become incredible childcare practitioners.”

Loughborough College has facilitated industry-quality teaching and support to learners on apprenticeship programmes for several years. Learners are able to engage in a hands-on experience, leading to opportunities for progression and promotion in a vast number of industries. With years of elite experience supporting apprentices, Lime Tree Day Nursery has recognised the expertise of Loughborough College in supporting career development.

Georgina continued, “Working with Loughborough College is always an easy and smooth process. Any query or question we have is answered and they have supported us with everything from vacancies, through to applications and funding.”

Anstey Wallpaper Company

Leicestershire employer Anstey Wallpaper has been creating new opportunities and pathways for apprentices across the community as they have supported several College learners in reaching new career goals.

A group of six College apprentices from across the CMI Level 3 Team Leader qualification have received a 100% pass rate of Distinction and Pass certifications after working with Anstey Wallpaper.

Anstey Wallpaper are the largest wallcovering printers in the UK are known the world over for their vast machine profile and over 100 years of experience in the industry, allowing apprentices the opportunity to work with a prestigious regional employer.

Among them was apprentice Sean Kelly, whose goals to expand his career path and learn new and invaluable skills inspired him to undertake the CMI award.

“I stepped into a lead role with Anstey Wallpaper at the start of my apprenticeship, first as a supervisor, now as a manager for the site. It is my dream to continue to develop professionally in new roles and take my career to new heights.”

Loughborough College has an expansive reputation of working closely with local businesses and employers, providing organisations with the opportunity to develop a flexible and talented workforce with degree-standard qualifications.

“It has been a great partnership,” shared Anna Thomas, Group HR Business Manager at Anstey Wallpaper’s parent company, Sanderson Design Group. “For us, it was important to partner with somewhere close by to highlight our presence in Loughborough. We were lucky to find that Loughborough College had such an outstanding reputation for apprenticeship programmes and training that fit with what we were hoping to achieve.”

Sean agreed, adding, “It’s been great learning new skills, gaining knowledge that is useful for my career, and being able to study and implement my learning as I go.

“Loughborough College is a great place, and has delivered the right training for me and my role. They have really supported me throughout.”

Apprenticeships at Loughborough College offer learners the invaluable opportunity to work in a practical and professional environment in order to gain the necessary skills for a successful career. The College supports apprentices in a variety of sectors and settings, working with employers and industry professionals both locally and nationally.

Looking ahead to the future partnership with Loughborough College, Anna reflected, “It’s been a great partnership so far, and one we can only see growing over time. It was great to get involved with the College and share best practices and skill development.”

EMIoT

Loughborough College is a partner in The East Midlands Institute of Technology (EMIoT) alongside Derby College Group, Loughborough University and the University of Derby.

From September 2024 it will begin delivering the very best in technical education for students – including apprenticeships, T-levels and HNCs - with high-quality training and qualifications particularly focused around engineering, digital and professional construction.

EMIoT will focus on skills for a green economy, future energy and leadership in those fields.

The East Midlands Institute of Technology (EMIoT) is one of 21 Institutes of Technology in England, established by the Department for Education (DfE) to deliver world-class higher technical education.
