A Loughborough College student is launching a pioneering app set to have a major impact on our leisure time.
Capacity has been created by Lee Quinn to let users know instantly how busy a venue is, whether you’re planning a restaurant meal with your family or a night out at a bar with friends – it will even tell you if there are spaces at the car park.
Lee, who is studying for a degree in Sports Coaching at Loughborough College, hopes the app will transform free time for people in the area and eventually across the country.
“The idea for Capacity had been in my mind for a long time and with lots of support from people like my tutor at the College, Joe Hatwell, I have been encouraged to pursue it. So just over a year ago, I advertised for developers in Loughborough and found Haydn Gately and Robert Deans.
“It was described to me as a diamond of an idea and we have spent a long time polishing it. Now the app is ready to launch on itunes and Android.
“Capacity will allow you to search venues like restaurants to bars and nightclubs, see how many people are at them, give you directions and even find available car parking.
“Venue owners will provide live updating, for example through door clicker systems, with users able to rate them on the app for their reliability. We’ve got lots of local businesses on board – with some very big names interested. There is also interest from service providers who see it as a potential source of information to help them effectively distribute resources.
“Our plan is to expand from Loughborough to Leicester and Nottingham and eventually nationwide.
“I can’t believe that with help from the Enterprise Hub at the University and backing from the College, my idea has grown into a company with Haydn and Robert, a trademarked name and an app we are really proud of. People will wonder how they ever did without it.”
The official launch of Capacity takes place at John Cooper’s in Loughborough Students’ Union on 16 March and the app will be available from 17 March.
