Sainsbury’s supermarket has said it has nothing but praise for two Loughborough College students who joined them for work experience.

Callum Lynch and Shivan Sharma, who are part of the College’s Transitions programme, so impressed the retailer in Loughborough that they are eager to welcome more students for work experience.

Manager Nigel Dean said: “The whole team were very complimentary.

“One of our colleagues, Michael, was Callum and Shivan’s buddy for the week and he had nothing but praise for both individuals.

“They listened to instructions, they were friendly and polite at all times and they actioned advice. I am really pleased the placement was a success and look forward to welcoming future students.”

“Callum and Shivan were really impressed with their work placement, they couldn’t wait to return each day,” added Loughborough College progress tutor Karen Wesley.

“When they came back to college they went straight on the Sainbury’s website to see if they had any job vacancies, because they wanted a job with the company.”

In 2016 Sainsbury’s launched Embrace the Difference, a programme encouraging support for their commitment to making the supermarket a great place to work – for everyone.

“Placements are a fantastic opportunity for all students to work with some amazing national organisations, such as Sainsbury’s,” said Rachel Wade, senior employment broker with Loughborough College. “This year is the first time we have worked with Sainsbury’s in Loughborough. Their commitment to ‘Embrace the Difference’ is clear and the support and experience that they have provided to our Transitions students has been outstanding.”
