Trade Mission sees Loughborough College set to build on international links

Loughborough College has been aiming to build on an international relationship spanning almost two decades on a British Chamber of Commerce Trade Mission in Qatar.

Gemma Knott, Director of Business Development and Dr Ismail Farhan, Business Development Manager for Middle East and Special Projects have been looking to further develop opportunities which have seen Qatari students study degree-level Engineering with Loughborough College for 18 years and to strengthen the long-standing links with senior government which have helped make this possible.

In the approach to the FIFA 2022 World Cup and 2030 Qatar National Vision the College also hopes to grow this provision by
establishing a British curriculum in the country and helping facilitate infrastructure projects.

During their visit, Gemma Knott and Ismail Farhan met with the Director of Continuing Education at the prestigious Qatar University; the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and Qatar Foundation and also attended a Qatar British Business Forum Briefing with Doha school principals and head teachers.

Gemma Knott said: " I am proud of Loughborough College’s extensive international links - from our work with three Vietnamese colleges to our projects in Qatar. This helps firmly establish a global outlook for our UK students too.

“The British education system is amongst the best in the world and is recognised as such by leading Qatari government officials.

“We want to export our curriculums and pedagogies to help facilitate the rapid growth and infrastructure projects in Qatar leading up to exciting advancements such as the FIFA World Cup in 2022 as well as the Qatari 2030 National Transformation and Vision, which aims to create well-skilled Qatari citizens - particularly women, promoting a diverse economy away from a dependency on oil and gas.
