Loughborough College has hosted a talk which saw more than 100 students meet with a member of the House of Lords.

Baroness Byford offered an insight into life at Westminster before taking questions on the work and role of the House.

“This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives.

“The students were really interested to know how the House of Lords engages with young people and asked lots of great questions,” said Loughborough College Public Services lecturer Christopher Price, who was recently selected to attend the Teacher’s Institute at the Houses of Parliament.

The week long event included meeting Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow and the Lord Speaker Baroness D’Souza and Price arranged the visit to Loughborough College through the Lord Speaker’s national “Peers in Schools” programme.

This national programme, which has so far involved around 75,000 young people, sends members of the House of Lords into schools and colleges across the country to give talks in support of the citizenship curriculum.
