Courtney York is set to become a roaring success – after being awarded a degree by Loughborough College and securing a job with Leicester Tigers.
The 21 year old was awarded her degree in Event Management at today’s graduation ceremony before being jointly named Foundation Degree Overall Student of the Year alongside Emma Dibb.
“Receiving my foundation degree – and with a Commendation - has been a pinch me moment,” said Courtney. “I’ve really done it. My confidence has grown so much. Now I’ve been offered a position with the Tigers, helping with events there, and there’s no doubt the course at Loughborough College played a part in that.
“I didn’t want to go away to university as I am a real home bird, but I wanted a degree. My mum studied for a degree part time with the College a few years ago and recommended it – and it’s exceeded my expectations in every way.
“I have friends studying for their degrees in massive classes who feel they’re left to get on with it but at Loughborough College there are only a few of us in a group so we each get lots of attention and our lecturers really know us. Plus there are so many opportunities - I helped organise a major event for Young Enterprise and we got great feedback on that.
“My enthusiasm for events as a career has just grown and grown and so have my prospects. I can’t wait to get started on my part time job with the Leicester Tigers and I’m continuing my studies at Loughborough College. I enjoyed the celebrations with my family after the ceremony but then it’s back to the books.”
Loughborough College Management degree lead Iqbal Ullah added: “Courtney is an exceptional example of how dedication, determination and hard work can result in outstanding accomplishments being achieved. She demonstrated excellent team leadership skills, and whilst focussing on her own academic studies also made time to support fellow students to achieve higher standards.”
