Loughborough College swimmer named for British World Championship squad

Loughborough College swimmer Luke Greenbank has been selected for British Swimming’s World Championship squad.

The 21 year old, who is studying for his BSc in Sports Science with the College, was confirmed as part of the 25-strong team alongside former College student and Commonwealth silver medallist Molly Renshaw.

Luke sealed his spot on the squad for South Korea this summer when he took the men’s 200m Backstroke crown at April’s 2019 British Swimming Championships with a personal best of 1:55.89. The dominating win by two body lengths saw him become the third fastest Britain ever and rank as the fourth fastest swimmer in the world this year.

After making it to the finals of both the men’s 100m and 200m backstroke on the Gold Coast last year, Luke led off England’s 100m relay team before claiming Commonwealth silver as part of the quartet.

The FINA World Aquatics Championships will take place in Gwangju, South Korea from 12-28 July.
